and now they are ready for the chair!!

What? you say. 'they are ready for the chair..the chair lift that is!!

Today marked a huge milestone for Mackenzie and Maddie.  Both girls are now skiing off the Deer Chair.  Both girls thought it was pretty cool and a lot of fun riding the chair lift.  And let me tell you they looked pretty cute doing it.  The girls are doing so well they are doing 'pizza turns'.  Jayson was able to get a video of the girls first trip up and once we get home I will put it on the blog.  For now, it's late and tomorrow is our last day so I am off to bed...and hoping we get some more snow tonight!!

today is Monday in Fernie....

today was a great day here in Fernie.  Jackson headed out with his group and we dropped Mackenzie and Maddie off at play and ski school.  All we got from the girls was a see ya latter and off they went.  All three kids had a fantastic day and Mackenzie did get a little upset when I told her she would have to leave her equipment behind... "Mom, I want my own ski stuff" is what I got today.  I told her she would have to wait until she was 16 just like I did.

The snow is fantastic people and it is only going to get better.  Why, because it has been snowing those big fluffy flakes since 3pm!!  It is supposed to snow straight for the next 3 days!!  Like I have said before, Fernie has the best snow.

After our day of skiing, Jenn, Mom and I went into town to do a little shopping.  Fernie downtown is similar to Banff but not as touristy.  I love the old buildings and I hope to get a chance to take some pictures tomorrow or Wednesday.

Well, it is time for bed people.  All this fresh air is making the crew sleepy so off to bed we go.

Fernie 2012

yes my friends, were are once again in Fernie...and you know how happy that makes me!!

i often get asked WHY we love Fernie and 'do you really go with your whole family'?  Hell yah!  for as long as i can remember i've been going to the mountains to ski with my family.  that's one of the perks of mom and dad owning a ski hill~Mark Valley Ski Hill, at Lake of the Prairies.  my most favorite memories are of travelling out west with the anticipation of getting on a chair lift and skiing as fast as i could down the hill with no poles.  and now, jackson and mackenzie, and maddie, are doing the very same thing....  except jackson can't wait to learn to ski with poles and mackenzie and maddie are in an all day ski and play school.  I don't think they even had ski and play programs when i was their age.  mom and dad just sent me (i was 6yrs) and jason kelewchuck(?) on our way and then i get lost, hit a tree and was found by ski patrollers who sent me on my way after digging me out of the snow.  yes, that is a true story folks.  so now it is my turn to create those wonderful memories for mackenzie and jackson...spending time with grandma and grandpa kenco, auntie jenn, uncle jason and maddie and uncle bruce.  do we all drive each other crazy?  sure we do, but that's part of the fun and i would not want it any other way!!

and why Fernie?  well it has the best programs for children and well, the best snow we've ever skied.  it doesn't matter that we have been going to Fernie for 10yrs, there is always something new and this year it's the new Polar Peak Lift!!  more vertical and more snow.  the get-off point at the top of the chair is above the clouds...i shit you not!!   just google polar peek lift in Fernie~i will try and find a link for you.

so.....today is sunday and we usually head out bright and early in the morning.  the adults were slow to start but the kids, well they have a room to themselves and felt getting up at 6:15am was a good start to the day.  unfortunately the snow gods were taking a nap today and mother nature sent the dreary rain to spoil our day.  lucky for us, up top it's snowing and that is where we are headed tomorrow.
